The ICCW is a new 5000-seat convention centre in Newport, Wales. The construction of the main auditorium required a lightweight access platform to enable fitting out of lighting and equipment at roof level after the building envelope was complete. The WebDeck platform system was used, comprising tensioned ropes anchored to lightweight anchor beams fixed at the main columns. The floor ropes are suspended at intervals from the roof framing by chains, with infill panels sitting on the floor ropes to provide a safe working area.
CaSE were tasked with designing the floor rope anchorages to the main columns using lightweight EFCO channels and bespoke connectors, so that the entire platform could be installed manually by roped access personnel.
